Clubs & Organizations


Friends University offers a variety of activities for student involvement. The Clubs and Organizations listed below represent many of the opportunities that can help you make the most of your college experience.

Acts of Faith
Sponsor: Kurt Priebe (316) 295-5601
Acts of Faith is an evangelical, interdenominational ministry outreach of the University Theater Department. The group is made up of students who share a love for the Lord Jesus Christ and a desire to serve in performing arts ministry. Auditions are held in the fall semester for the current school year. Students prepare dramatic, comic, pantomime, touring one-act plays or musical performance materials for presentation throughout the academic year. The group presents an annual drama ministry showcase as a part of the theatre season, and has regularly performed at Faith & Learning, the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony, and local and regional churches and Christian Drama conferences.

Art and Design Society
Sponsor: Ted Krone (316) 295-5531 The mission is to provide art and design students with a scholastic and career-development oriented networking-group.

Association of Information Technology Professionals Inactive
Sponsor: Dick Teter (316) 295-5899 It is the mission of AITP to provide superior leadership and education in information technology. AITP is dedicated to using the synergy of information technology partnerships to provide education and benefits to our members and to working with the industry to assist in the overall promotion and direction of information technology.

Collegiate Music Educators National Conference (CMENC)
Sponsor: Dr. John Taylor (316) 295-5535 CMENC is comprised mostly of music education majors. CMENC hosts clinics for our membership, participates in campus activities, and attends the KMEA and K-COMTEP state conventions each year.

Concert Choir
Sponsor: Rolaine Hetherington (316) 295-5877 The concert choir, approximately 60 members, presents two major programs on campus: Christmas concert and spring concert. The choir performs for various civic and church organizations throughout Wichita and surrounding areas, and tours in the spring.

Crimson Chronicle
Sponsor: Lillian Martell (316) 295-5871 The Crimson Chronicle is the student newspaper for Friends University.

Drama Club (Theta Phi)
Sponsor: Dr. Charles Parker (316) 295-5577 The Center Stage Society was formed in the fall of 1998 by Friends students who have an interest in theatre arts with the goal of creating more interest in the theatre arts on campus. Members actively participate in theatre on campus and throughout the community.

English Club / Sigma Tau Delta
Sponsor: Dr. Darcy Zabel (316) 295-5519 The English Club is open to all students who are interested in promoting literacy, public service in this area and in meeting socially with other students interested in creative writing and the life of the mind. The English Club is also the feeder club for admission into the International English Honors Society, Sigma Tau Delta. To be eligible for initiation into Sigma Tau Delta, students must have a 3.5 GPA in their English major and meet the service requirement. The English Club provides an opportunity to meet that service requirement.

Falcon Activities and Campus Events (FACE)
Sponsor: Gary Rapp (316) 295-5838 and Jennifer Randolph (316) 295-5830 FACE is the main student programming board at Friends University. FACE is a branch of the Student Government Association and is comprised of 6 committees: • Arts & Entertainment • Classics (Homecoming and Cherry Carnival) • Diversity • Falcon Fanatics • Out & About • Special Events

Friends Community Symphony Orchestra
Sponsor: John Taylor (316) 295-5535 This orchestra is open to Friends University students as well as Wichita community musicians. Rehearsals are held on Tuesday evenings.

History Club
Sponsor: Guang Qiu Xu (316) 295-5202
The Friends History Club is an inclusive body, open to all students within the University. It serves the University by combating voter apathy among students and promoting political literacy within the University and community. The History Club provides a deep understanding of political systems (local, federal and global) through student involvement in local politics and frequent participation in the Model United Nations Program.

Jazz Combos

The Jazz Department consists of two full jazz ensembles, four jazz combos and the jazz vocal ensemble. Auditions for all groups are during the first week of school each fall. All groups perform several times each semester on campus, occasionally at community events and tours outside of Wichita. The Jazz Department also hosts a jazz-artist-in-residence each fall and a large two-day Jazz Festival each February

KNEA-SP: Friends Chapter

The purpose of KNEA-SP of Friends University is to develop in prospective educators an understanding of the education profession, to provide for a united student voice in matters affecting their profession, to advance the interests and welfare of students preparing for a career in education, to promote and protect human and civil rights, and to stimulate the highest ideals of professional ethics, standards, and attitudes.

Mu Phi Epsilon Music Fraternity

Mu Phi Epsilon believes in the advancement and promotion of musicianship, scholarship and friendship.

Multi-Cultural Student Assembly (MSA)

The mission of the Multi-Cultural Student Assembly is promoting the Recognition of Every Student's Pride, Ethnicity and Culture Today. Additionally, MSA's purpose is to help foster within the University community a respect for and appreciation of the history, traditions and cultures of our diverse students.

Phi Beta Lambda Business Fraternity Inactive

Phi Beta Lambda provides students leadership development through situations that bring business and education together in a positive working relationship. This club intends to strengthen the confidence of students and help develop character as well as prepare them for the working world. In addition, PBL helps facilitate the transition from school to work by helping to develop competent business leadership. Membership is open to anyone interested in the business world.

Psi Chi National Honor Society in Psychology

The mission of Psi Chi is to encourage, stimulate, and maintain excellence in scholarship and to advance the science of Psychology. Membership is limited and is by invitation only.

Psychology Club
Sponsor: Bill Allan (316) 295-5891
The organization is designed to bring psychology majors together for professional development and enrichment. This club provides social gatherings, off campus trips to graduate schools, professional meetings, and applied learning situations. Our retreats, dinners and parties also allow for faculty-student interaction outside of the classroom.

Sigma Delta Pi Spanish Club

Sigma Delta Pi is a national Spanish honorary organization. Its purpose is to provide opportunities for practice in speaking Spanish and for social interaction with other students of Spanish through community service projects. The Kappa Phi Chapter at Friends University has been named "Outstanding National Chapter" the last 4 years.

Singing Quakers

The Singing Quakers have gained an enviable reputation as one of the most distinguished choral organizations in the country. They are an auditioned choir consisting of music majors and non-majors who have had significant choral experience. The purpose of the Singing Quakers is to present the finest choral music in a variety of styles to audiences in Wichita and throughout the United States and internationally.

Student Government Association (SGA)
Sponsor: Dr. Carole Obermeyer
The Student Government Association represents the concerns and views of all students. SGA is comprised of an Executive Branch, a Student Senate and the Falcon Activities and Campus Events programming board. Meetings are open to all students that pay student fees.

Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE)
The mission of SIFE is to mobilize university students around the world to make a difference in their community while developing the skills to become socially responsible leaders.

Talisman Yearbook

The Yearbook committee produces a quality magazine-style yearbook that creatively and accurately represents the life of Friends University traditional undergraduate programs on a yearly basis. 1-3 hours of college credit is available.

The Gallery
Sponsor: Darcy Zabel (316) 295-5519
For one to three hours credit (or on a volunteer basis) students create a literary/art magazine from start to finish, including judging and editing submissions, designing and producing layout, and preparing printer-ready copy.

The Group
The Group exists to promote social justice issues through open discussions about diverse topics. The alliance is inclusive and supportive of student diversity and self-expression within the Friends University community.

University Band

This band is both the Concert Band and Pep Band (non-marching) for home football and basketball games. The Band meets three times a week. Non-majors are welcome and scholarship opportunities are available.

Zoo Science Club
Sponsor: Patrick Matthews (316) 295-5608
This club is primarily comprised of Zoo Science and biology-related majors, but is open to anyone who is interested in the future of the natural world. The purpose of the club is to have fun while gaining hands-on experience and professional skills outside the school curriculum.
